The origin of the plaza's name: The lotus is Hualien County's county flower. It has a pure and unstained quality, and it echoes exactly the reputation of Hualien as “Taiwan's last piece of pure land”. In the middle of the fountain pool is Asia's largest granite ball, symbolizing reunion; while “water” is a symbol of wealth, and the big ball rolling is like the putting out of endless financial resources.
